MEDICAL GUIDANCE CENTRE
On 10 January 2026, a comprehensive healthcare outreach initiative was organized at Byculla District Jail through the collaborative efforts of the Medical Guidance Centre, Medical Service Society, and PRAYAS (TISS). The camp aimed to address the critical healthcare needs of inmates, a group that often faces limited access to regular medical services. A total of 436 inmates benefitted from the camp, including 90 male and 346 female inmates. The initiative provided a wide range of services such as general health check-ups, detailed dental examinations, medical consultations, and psychological counselling. Qualified doctors and healthcare professionals ensured that each inmate received personalized attention, with diagnoses followed by the distribution of essential medicines free of cost. Beyond immediate treatment, the camp also focused on spreading awareness about hygiene, oral health, and preventive care. Counselling sessions played a key role in addressing mental health concerns, offering emotional support and guidance to inmates living in challenging conditions. This initiative not only improved access to basic healthcare services within the jail but also reinforced the importance of dignity, care, and inclusion for marginalized sections of society. It stands as a meaningful step towards ensuring that even those in confinement are not deprived of essential health and wellness support.
